[pct-l] First time multi-day hiking.

Hey all! I've always been an avid outdoors guy, and I hike different paths every weekend. I'm planning on taking things to the next level and starting multi-day hikes through the PCT. I plan on easing into things slowly and doing a couple days at a time to begin, but I had some questions, if anyone can help.

I live in San Diego and plan on hiking the PCT through Cleveland National Forest. My main questions follow:

-Do I need any sort of permit to camp overnight?
-Can I camp anywhere along the trail, or can I only hike in designated camp grounds?
-Any tips for first time multi-day hikers like myself?
