I bought one of the first Kelty Packs in 1953. He was then working out of his garage in Glendale, Calofornia.

It was Eric's book that inspired most of us '70s hikers. It has been a
real thrill getting to know him at kickoff, but the best time was when
he got his original pack from Kelty Pack--the one you've seen in all
the pictures--and brought that piece of PCT history to share.

And generously provides medallions to all those who finish the trail,
whether as thru or section hikers.  If close to Sacramento you can meet him
if you wish next spring at the annual meeting.
