Why not? Thru hikers "boldly go where no one has gone before", mostly
because they managed to get lost at least once in 2600 miles. I did it once
a week or so.

I like the Romulan connection, and have always spelled it nero as that is
closer to "zero."  Seems the most important part is that it is a take off on
the hiker slang of "zero" for what backpackers used to call a "lay day" from
"lay over day."  So that's my vote.
