Just another idea Patrick, but you may want to consider starting at Kennedy
Meadows and hiking the High Sierra first. You will hit a bit less snow than
those starting that section in early to mid June where most of the pack will
be, but you will still be hiking with a lot of thru hikers. Frankly it's a
great bunch of people, just be wary of shaking hands with any of that hiker
trash bunch. They're waaaayyyyy dirty, and love it. You will be hiking a
section of trail closer to the right time of the year, and will start your
love affair with the PCT with a bang. It's some of the most beautiful trail
in the US, and 50 days will get you a long way up the Sierra Nevada. The
deserts are absolutely gorgeous in spring or fall, and planning to hike them
another year at the right time will give you a marvelous experience as
apposed to a grueling one.

Just one option. If you're section hiking it, you can use that to your
advantage and try to hit it all at the right times of year.
