I am puzzled by the decision making going on.

If I understand what he wrote, he has been having trouble with cold and snow in the San Gabriels, so he is heading to the north, to head south.

However, that means he is abandoning the desert regions now, when they are easier to hike, and hit the Sierra, with low snow levels....to head to WA, where they have had epic snow?

Out of the frying pan, into the fire?

I must not be understanding what is happening.....
