QUINCY - More than 4,300 acres in the Feather River Canyon have been charred
by the Chips Fire as of this morning.
According to the Plumas National Forest, the fire stands at 4,352 acres,
with 426 firefighters on the line.

According to a Plumas press release, the "human-caused fire started in the
Chips Creek drainage along the Pacific Crest Trail" Sunday.

The growing fire is continuing to send smoke into the valley and across the
foothills.

Firefighters are still battling spot fires started by flying embers.

The mandatory evacuation for Maggie's Trailer Park and Little Haven have
been lifted. However, area campgrounds and trails are still closed.

Belden and Little Haven residents have been told to be ready to evacuate.

Highway 70 is still open, with one-way controls on traffic, but travelers
should check road conditions regularly at 1-800-427-ROAD or online at
www.dot.ca.gov.
