My experience on a number of longer section hikes is that if you want to
hook up and hike with people, you will be able to. The "herd" is a
loose conglomeration of shifting personas spread out over two or three
weeks. Your pre-trip anxiety has you worry about stuff you can't
control. It's both natural and normal.

Actually, such emotions are good training for the emotions you'll
experience on the trail - finding yourself wondering why you're doing
this, dreading the next pass, tired of hiking. All take you away from
being-in-the-moment. Pre-trip anxiety prepares you to let go and simply
open your being to being-there...

Just a thought....
