It is my understanding that there are two types of rangers, but they
both wear the same uniform.

There are the Naturalists (Ranger Rick's), and the Law Enforcement
Officers (or LEOs.) There is even some friction between the rangers
from the different types.

Yosemite, especially The Valley, is a good place to stay away from
during high season, and never, ever mess with the LEO rangers. Google
the Stoneman Meadow Riots July 4, 1970.

Also FIWIW, once you leave Yosemite, you don't end up in the county
jail, you end up in federal detention in Fresno.
