Good afternoon!

Over the past couple of years, I have gleaned the following best methods to
do that final "skin-out" weight reduction. Apologies if any of these ideas
were yours:

1. Sand down the caps of your Gatorade bottles - they are unnecessarily
thick, after all.
2. What's with the 8 1/2 X 11 Halfmile maps? Print them out, and trim off
everything but a 1" margin around the red PCT track.
3. Memorize the Data Book. Think about what those pages weigh.
4. One Taco Bell spork. Done.
5. Sing, and leave your Ipod at home. You'll be hiking alone, but it's
all about the grams, right?
6. Cold food. You're seriously going to second guess the PCT speed record
holder?
7. Leave the Petzl Pretzel at home. Replace with a Photon and a rubber
band. You've thought about that one already, haven't you?
8. Sunburn one week before you leave. Peel 3 grams.
9. Pine needle tea on trail. Leave the Lipton, and those backbreakinig
teabag labels.
10. Leave your worries behind - 20 useless pounds.

Doug
