[pct-l] Silk Liners verses Extra Down

Hello All,

To try to keep my other thread about warmer bags verses extra clothing
from going off-topic, going to start a new discussion.

A number of people have brought up using silk liners. I can understand
them, but *only* from the perspective of helping to keep your bag
clean.

I fail to see why anybody would carry a single-use piece of gear if
the goal is to just throw it into your sleeping bag to add some
warmth.

The logic here seems messed up.

The vast majority of the silk liners out there are either 4 ounces or 6 ounces.

Do you realize how many extra degrees of warmth you can add to a
sleeping bag by adding that same amount of weight into your bag via
additional down fill?

I am just not seeing the logic here folks... than again, I do not
always seem to see the obvious question that is right in front of me.

So, to those who use silk liners... why carry that extra weight when
you could just put that weight towards additional down in your
sleeping bag??

Thanks,
John
