I remember fretting about the $350 price tag on the Marmot Hydrogen bag.  I've now slept in it between 350-400 times, so that's a $1 a night!  
 
So, with a PCT map price tag of $95, and it takes, lets say 100 days to hike the trail, that's 95 cents a day for an invaluable tool to navigate, stay on the correct trail and unmarked junctions, know the names of peaks and creeks around you ect, what a bargin!

I concur.  I think we've become so focused on that number after the dollar sign, we've forgotten what that number represents.  Even more, we've completely lost sight of what it really takes to produce and transport things, from PCT maps to cars to tomatoes to titanium pots.
When we look at things like the PCT Atlas or the M.P. Guidebooks, how often do we think about all the time and effort that went into producing those things?  Could Erik the Black put his PCT Altas pages up on the web for us to download for free?  Well...yeah, I suppose he probably could.  On the other hand, he's gone out there and had to pay attention to a lot more than just hiking.  That goes for any other PCT resource.
