Brick,
I had that same deer-seeking-salt problem when I camped at Kangaroo Meadows above Seiad Valley. I had to resort to hanging everything from trees out of their reach. At first, I thought that the deer were just friendly. I was delighted. Then I realized why.

In the Marble Mountains, pee will attract deer, who are desperate for
the salt. The will also run off with sweat soaked clothes left out to
dry, and they are really brazen about it.
