Greetings,

I have more enthusiasm about this park than information. I hiked there today for the first time. But. It seems an ideal place for a winter backpacking trip. No permits are required. A stop at the visitors center or a telephone call could provide the basic information.

There is an entry fee to the park except for us older hikers who get the best bargain in the world: the senior pass.

Maps:
 - Tom Harrison / Joshua Tree National Park: http://www.tomharrisonmaps.com/online%20order.html
 - National Geographic / Joshua Tree National Park Trail Map: http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/national-parks/joshua-tree-national-park/

Dogs:
 - Allowed in park, but not on trails.

Permits:
 - None required. Must camp at least one mile from the trailhead.

Water:
 - Hikers and backpackers MUST CARRY IN ALL THEIR WATER; THERE IS NONE AVAILABLE ALONG THE TRAILS where camping is allowed.

Other:
 - It is likely to be VERY windy.

Walk well,
Jim Keener ( J J )
