Good morning, Eric,

Most of the time over snowpack I choose to walk only with the tread on my
sneakers, but I do have CMI instep crampons -- 8.9 oz. without a sack –
which I sometimes carry. Photo at:

I’ve heard good things about MicroSpikes but I haven’t used them.

An amazingly good, ultra-lite option is shoe-screws described at that same
URL and pictured at: http://www.trailjournals.com/photos.cfm?id=429216 and

Shoe-screws aren’t my invention; I used to run quite a bit in the winter,
and screws are popular among those who do.
