Good morning, Aslive,
I see no need for casual camp shoes like Crocs: I spend very little time
on my feet in camp; my trail shoes are very comfortable and I have no
reason to replace them for a few minutes; I couldn’t care less what is
fashionable as they hang on the back of my pack; I’m not concerned with
what “everyone else” is doing; they are too heavy for a limited benefit;
and Crocs, and the like, are not very secure for stream crossing.
Anytime I can’t/won’t wade in my hiking footwear, the best minimal
compromise for me is a pair of sneaker insoles stuffed into a pair of
sturdy, above-the-ankle, socks. I have a box of these insoles because I
replace them before wearing the shoe. The socks will eventually wear out,
but there are only about a dozen crossings.
