[pct-l] Skipping California

I have two months free this spring/summer. I want to hike the PCT but don't have time to do the whole thing. Not this year at least.

I was thinking of skipping California for the following reasons:
-avoiding the lack of water in SoCal.
-avoiding the snow in the Sierras.
-avoiding having to use a bear can.
-avoiding the rain and snow in the Cascades.


What would be a good time to start from say Ashland, OR?
