On a thru-hiker pace, you will be through the problem Bear section of
the trail in less than 2 weeks, and in a time frame where the bears
have not migrated back to the high country.

Don't stress about bears, don't bring bear spray, or a gun. A bear
canister is the best protection you could bring.

Bear problems are much greater for weekenders, and most of the hype
you hear is for them.
