Does anyone on this list use bleach to treat their water and if so can you
provide some general guidelines on how to use it (number of drops per liter,
type of bleach, etc.)?

Catching up with a few old threads . . .

Bleach is definitely cheap and easy to use. If those qualities are the most
important to you, go for it. Be aware, though, that Aqua Mira is (as far as
I know) the chemical treatment with the least potential for long-term
side-effects. The active sterilization agent in bleach is free chlorine,
while the active sterilization agent in Aqua Mira is oxygen. (Aqua Mira
creates chlorine dioxide when mixed but that's a very different chemical
than free chlorine. It's not the same thing at all.) Aqua Mira is probably
less bad for you over a period of extended use and it's more effective
against Giardia and Crypto.
