[pct-l] Fw: Permanent Campfire Ban on PCT?

Smoke like fog here from chips every day for a month.
Advised not to go outdoors.
More weeks of smoke at Shasta from Bagley and ponderosa fires. It's been a smoked out summer. No fires in dry years.

Those extremely light weight soda can stoves are much more likely to be blown over by a sudden, and unexpected, gust of wind. This has happened more than once - as reported on the PCT-L. And, the flame is invisible and cannot be turned off - no valve. You can't simmer. It is much safer to use a canister stove. The Jetboil is very light weight and more fuel efficient than alcohol stoves - you only use as much fuel as you need. Cooking two meals/day the larger canister lasts me a week - and it only weighs 13 ounces. Please don't risk burning down any of the PCT. I know, those who are very experienced and careful use them successfully. I'm most concerned that they might, and do, influence new hikers who aspire to do the PCT.
