Dear Dan

I am sorry. My post of passive walking robot may be done two or three years
ago. After that, I searched the articles of walking on the slope. There are
too many papers to read for me. Therefore I cited a recent representative
article in my book.

The abstract was cited here.

Roughly speaking, the energy consumption became double on the 5% uphill,
2.7 times on the 10% uphill condition.

I have only said the huge upper muscles are not needed to walking. The
professor who was specialized in long distance running frequently said to
me " Now, the marathon season began, I must reduce my arm muscles".

My handbook will be published in April or May. This was completely written
in Japanese, because of my English ability. ( I have translated the preface
into English. ) I am ready to distribute my manuscript ( PDF and LaTeX
format ) to anyone of PCT-L , when it was published. Google translator may
be some help.

Some of the ideas were accumulated in this page ( very incomplete form)

I am not a PCT hiker nor an ultralight hiker. Therefore, I write freely and
enjoyed writing book very much. It was my intellectual exploration of
hiking world.
