When I hiked in 1995, in a very heavy snow year, I met only 2 other
groups of thru hikers the whole trail. 6 People total. This was also
back when the only method of contacting home was payphones or post
offices in trail towns, and the only form of navigation was map and
compas. No cell phones, GPS or Spot

I had a large number low points: Cold, tired, hungry, lost in the snow
pack, but most of all, Lonely, so very very lonely.

Everyone has their own experience.
