Hello-

Last year I had a heck of a time with the UPS people(s).  All the independent shops would not ship it.  This, I learned that they were not educated to do so.  I went to 2 local UPS centers/hub and the answer was still, NO, we cannot ship these sma ll gas cannisters without a hazardous material permit..  Having done the homew ork I was confident this was not the case.  One hub actually cal Ied the UPS HazMat number and was told they could not ship it.  HUM!  I  called 800-554-9964. I explained I was shipping camp stove fuel iso-butane UN2037.  Apparently, the UN 2037 indicated a different classification of Haz Mat. The weight of the gas was 4 oz.  Lora, from UPS indicated that if the gas was under X  oz and the entire package was under XX lbs, then I simply had to write "ORM-D" under " Consumer Commodity" and draw a rectangle around the marking.

I asked Lora tha if I had any problem at the independent sites if they could call you direct.  She was very helpful   So, I simply took m y resupply boxes, less than 16 lbs each, to the UPS store and, after noticing the ORM-D label, they asked what was inside. I told them and said they could speak to Lora at UPS if they had questions.  With that, they simply shipped it. Of course, gas cannisters cannot be shipped via air. .

This link is helpful as well.

Planning our thru hike for this season. Is there an accepted way to ship
pressurized gas canisters to locations along the PCT? Can we use USPS or
another carrier? Thanks, Hawk.

(Where) Do you get Chia seeds along the trail?

You reach down and grab them. In SoCal they are prolific in the chapparal zone.

Amazon Prime is a great idea. I've been living in the country for about a year (it's not the end of the world, but you can see it from here,) and Amazon is a total lifesaver. You do have to be careful of some of their vendors, though. Lots of fake goods being sold there lately. They're obviously going to have to start monitoring vendors better or risk losing business. Still worth a Prime membership, though, especially for you students out there, since it's half off for you.

Note: Trader Joe's sells chia seeds for a pretty good price! If you have
access to that might be a good item for the bounce box :)
