The laws for carrying a gun without a concealed weapons permit in
California make the firearm more a fashion statement than a self defense
weapon. Federal law was changed to allow firearms into national parks as
long add folks followed the different state laws they happen to be in.

Just clarifying, still prefer bear spray in the woods over a gun.
