[pct-l] . Guffy Campground vs Blue Ridge Campground

I stopped at Blue Ridge Campground. It is a much better camp than Guffy, with lots of trees and well sheltered from the wind. At Guffy the water is hard to reach. While there is no water at Blue Ridge, there was a north-facing snowbank along the dirt road/PCT just a short distance before you reach the campground. You could melt some snow if you need water. When I was there I discovered that an Angel had put about 15 cans of beer and soft drinks in the snowbank. Another possibility for water would be that there were a few campers and trailers who had driven in by the road. Someone would likely spare you some water if you need it.  In my case, my wife met me there and was Angeling for a few hikers who had passed on Guffy. Since it was legal to do it there, we made a campfire and enjoyed it with the hikers.

Sandals and I stayed at the Guffy campground during our 2010 thru-hike.  We
were there on May 22nd, a Saturday evening, and the place was completely
deserted. I have no idea whether it was officially open or not, but no one
gave us a hard-time about camping there.

The water source below the campground is a bit tricky to find, but if you
carefully follow the directions in Yogi's guide and/or the water report,
you should have no problem.

The campground has great views, but is pretty high up, and highly exposed.
As such, it might not be the best choice on a cold, windy night.  On the
other hand, if late season snow is in the forecast, it is a pretty safe
place to camp, because if the trail become gets snowed under during the
night, the dirt road from the campground down to the highway makes for a
safe and easily followed alternate route.

Has anyone stayed at Guffy Campground (~mi. 365)? Is it usually open by
early May? Is it a good camping option? Looks like it might be the only
water/camping available for 20+ miles after Cajon Pass....

Thanks.
