[pct-l] PCT traffic and solar panels

Dear James,

The John Muir Trail is safer than driving to work every day, yet so many
people think it is fraught with peril! If you were a woman, you would
really get the "danger" naysayers yelling at you all the time! Take a deep
breath and try to be patient with these people.

You'll be hiking about the same time that the PCT through hikers are moving
through that area so you will have lots of camaraderie! I think that is
before the mosquitoes get bad. Mid August and later is after the
mosquitoes.

People I talk to say the solar chargers don't work very well. My BF is
hiking the A.T. this year and just purchased a battery unit that charges
his I-phone. It has 50 hours of phone time or something stored on it (not
sure of exact figures) It is about 2"X3" and isn't too heavy. He is
retired and I still have to work for a living so this is a sweet gesture to
reach out to me each day. I appreciate this as I can hike vicariously with
him on the trail. Your wife will love the stories you bring to her each
day but you won't always get phone service on the PCT. The A.T. is better
for that.

Toga
