As for an easier way to find posts, have you tried the archives yet?

I agree that the digest is difficult now that I don't have a real computer.
The tiny screen on this phone makes for a lot of scrolling.

I look at the digest table of contents to see what's going on.
Then I jump over to the archives page at PCT-L at backcountry.net
