What is missing in the Spot debate is that the rescuers cannot deploy until morning light in order to keep their volunteers, first of all, safe. They also need to be able to see and be seen. So as much as you may need immediate help, it may not be able to immediately reach out to you. You may have hours and hours on your own to save yourself anyway possible. It's an imperfect system and every hiker should be aware of that fact. That said, Muk Muk did what was right for her and her circumstance. Even better, she stayed put until the rescuers found her and were able to close the emergency incident.
