"US 2 Both Directions - Until fall, expect both eastbound lanes to be closed
a mile west of the summit with traffic shifted to the westbound lanes and
reduced to one lane in each direction. The speed limit is also reduced to 50
mph. Provision has been made for bicycles through the work zone. Crews are
working on the slopes from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m., daily.

In this $5.5 million project , MidWest Rockfall crews are clearing, scaling,
rock bolting and hanging steel netting to reduce rock fall from four
unstable slopes west of Stevens Pass. One was stabilized last summer and
three, this summer."

It looks like the highway will remain open, but with only one lane in each
direction instead of two. The lower speed limit should actually make
hitching easier.
