[pct-l] easiest way to get permits for sierras hiking starting at Kennedy Meadows - to join a friend doing the PCT

Last year I got mine at the USFS Ranger Station in Lone Pine. My permit was to ride from Horseshoe Meadows to Wawona. There was no charge. They just wanted to know my starting and finishing locations and the dates.
