"Toners" and astringents have gone out of fashion in the skin care industry, but witch hazel is still widely available and is quite useful. It is much gentler than rubbing alcohol (does not sting) while sharing many of its benefits. It is recommended for the treatment of diaper rash, acne, contact dermatitis, poison ivy, eye puffiness, and hemorrhoids. It is applied with a cotton pad or clean cloth. The most common brand is Dickinson's.
