[pct-l] Asolo sunset shoes

Your plan sounds great to me. You are comfortable in the shoes and have
relatively low pack weight.

My experience with REI salesmen (who I really like) is that they come from
the old school. I haven't met an REI salesman who has hiked the JMT yet.
They think you should hike in heavy, stiff boots.

You might try hiking on some rocky trails somewhere before you leave. When I
hiked in some of the rockier trails I liked to insert Dr Scholl's sponge
rubber inserts. They seemed to take the edge off some of the sharp rocks.
But most of the time I hike in New Balance Minimus trail running shoes. They
have no insole & very thin soles.

Subject: [pct-l] Asolo sunset shoes

Hey guys, does anyone has experience with Asolo Sunset hiking boots?
I've been wearing them for a year now and they are really comfortable. The
only drawback I've found so far is a rather thin insole that I'm planning
to replace for my JMT section hike. Today the REI representative have tried
to scare me off, telling that this is a poor choice of footwear for JMT
terrain. Any thoughts?
My backpack base weight is around 15lb, total weight around 30lb on a first
day
Thanks
Nina
