[pct-l] Mountain house repackaging

David, there is a lot of wasted air space and packaging material in those MH
packages. You will want to repackage in advance, especially when you are
carrying a bear canister. I repackage them and then save one of the empty
foil pouches which folds up very flat when empty. Then when I am ready for
dinner I just dump one of the zip lock bags into the foil pouch and pour the
boiling water in. I find this works better than pouring the water into a
zip lock because the foil pouches have a bottom that allows you to stand
them up while the contents are rehydrating and they are less likely to get a
hole poked in them from your fork or knife while stirring. Then I rinse out
the foil pouch and it is ready for the next day.

When you are hiking, and before you actually add the water, is the MH mix
still in the original pkg or did you repackage to (?) in advance to save
wt/space?
