[pct-l] Social Networking, Kickoff, Narcissism and the quest for Triple Clowning

Whilst I would intend to carry a smartphone, I would definitely not see one
as a replacement for Maps, compass and flashlight. Too easy for it to fail
(or battery goes flat). I regard one as a convenience/backup for printed
maps (or maybe the other way round).

Similarly, if relying for a smartphone for some of the other functions you
list (e.g. Camera, Journal, music player, etc.) then I suspect a Smartphone
alone would not be enough - you'd need solar panels or external
power/changer to keep the thing charged.

Maybe I am ld fashioned but I would always recommend people take printed
maps - which continue to work after that "not so slick" river crossing, or
than drop or fall, etc.
