What I can see from the fire department's website is that it's about 9
miles west of the PCT.  There are no road closures near the PCT.  It
doesn't seem to be getting larger in the past day, and they are calling it
40% contained.  Judging by the road closures and wind direction it would
seem that the fire is traveling away from the PCT rather than towards it.

Update 5/2/2013 11:04 a.m. - The size of the fire remains 2,956 acres, 40%
contained.  Updates will be posted as information becomes available.

Update 5/2/2013 8:21 a.m. - The day assignment consists of approximately
400 firefighters comprised of ground and air resources.  Roads are closed
on Wilson St. from San Gorgonio to Sunset.  Updates will be posted as
information becomes available.

Update 5/2/2013 6:50 a.m.: The fire is 40% contained and holding at 2956
acres. One additional firefighter received non-life threatening injuries on
the fire line last night. A day assignment is in place inclusive of ground
and air firefighting resources and will be on scene throughout the day to
improve containment lines and patrol the fire area for flare ups and hot
spots.  Winds on the fire line are out of the east at 28 mph, gusting to 40
and relative humidity is 10%. Residents are urged to exercise caution when
driving through the fire area, including yielding to fire apparatus and
obeying road closure barriers where posted.

Update 10:00 p.m. Road closures remain in place for San Gorgonio Ave. ,
Sunset Ave., Bluff Rd., Wilson Ave.; Mesa and Gilman, however, Indian
School Rd., 8th St. and Highland Springs Ave. are open. All fixed
wing aircraft and helicopters released for the night. Day assignment
planned for tomorrow. Firefighters will remain at the scene throughout the
night.  Road closure information will be updated as information becomes
available from the Incident Commander.

Update 8:50 p.m. - The fire is now approximately 2,956 acres.  35%
contained with a slow rate of spread.

Update 8:00 p.m.: Evacuation orders lifted for residents in the Highland
Springs Mobile Home Park. Mias Canyon Road has been re-opened. Bluff Road
remains closed. Motorists should drive with caution due to fire equipment
working in the area and also obey road closure signs and barricades.

Update 6:55 p.m.: Fire is 30% contained. No estimation on full containment.
Bluff Road remains closed until further notice.

Update 5:50 p.m. The fire is now 1700 acres. The Highland Springs Mobile
Home Park has been evacuated.

Update 5:20 p.m. One firefighter received minor injuries.

Update 4:10 p.m. Fire is now mapped at 1500 acres with one structure
confirmed damaged.

Update 2:22 p.m. - The fire is now approximately 150 acres.  0% contained.

Update 1:20 p.m.: Fire is now approximately 60 acres. Residents on Indian
School lane and the top of 8th Street have been evacuated by Banning PD.
Road closures in place all of Wilson Street between San Gorgonio and
Highland Springs Avenue. Updates will be posted as information becomes
available.

CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters are on scene of  a wildland fire
near North San Gorgonio Road and Summit Drive in the Banning area. The fire
is approximately 10 acres, burning in light to medium fuels at a rapid
rate. Outside temperature 80 degrees, humidity 12%, winds from the east at
29 mph. Updates will be posted as information becomes available.
