All good suggestions to which I add:
1. Sometimes an adequate dose of pain medication before bedtime (when tossing and turning is related to aches and pains)
2. Regarding not fighting getting up to pee, even better, get a pee bottle...
3. Sometimes a thin matt just doesn't cut it. For an ounce or two more, get a blow-up mattress, eg. the NeoAir.
4. Watch nutrition before bedtime. Eating a simple carb can jump start increased metabolism just when you need REM sleep to kick in. Choose complex carbs or cheese etc. Going to bed hungry also is not helpful because as your blood sugar drops during sleep, your pancreas may dump in some glucagon causing a metabolic surge.
