Good morning, John,

Most often sneakers, i.e. trail or street running shoes, last about 500-700
miles, meaning the first pair will be replaced at Agua Dulce or maybe
Kennedy Meadows. That provides the opportunity to change style and/or size
in response to the probable changes in foot size as the miles pass.

A single pair of sturdy leather hiking boots may go the entire distance,
but they are considerably heavier, more expensive, and the size can’t be
changed.
