It charges my phone in about an hour while others take 4-6 hours. I keep it Velcro'd to the top of my pack with the phone in a shoulder harness pouch with it connected to the charging cord and basically forget about it. I charges my MP3 player in less than an hour too. >> >> Sent from my iPhone>> >>> On Nov 13, 2013, at 1:04 PM, writebon at bonniepeterson.com wrote:>>> >>> >>> >>> >>> Does anyone have any positive or negative experience with solar chargers (for smartphones)?>>> Thanks!>>> --Bonnie Peterson>>> >>> >>> _______________________________________________>>> Pct-L mailing list>>> Pct-L at backcountry.net>>> To unsubscribe, or

> hat "wired" had to say about her choice of charger:*Suntactics sCharger-5 Solar Charger*Pros: Gave me pretty unlimited powerwhen in direct sunlight. Was like plugging my devices directly into thewall! Pretty sturdy.Cons: Pricey. You could charge smaller things like an MP3 in intermittentsunlight or overcast, but not an iPhone. The iPhone needed direct sunlightfor extended periods of time. If I was going in and out of sun, it would bedraining the phone battery instead of charging it.Bottom Line: Best option out there for more sun exposed trails. Perfect forthe CDT! I'd say Good for the first half of the PCT and then maybe consideran independent rechargeable battery. On Thu, Nov 14, 2013 at 9:04 AM, Terry <tsparks56 at aol.com> wrote:> My charger weighs 6.5 ounces not including the Velcro stuck to the outside> of the charger to attach it to the pack.
