Try audio books they are a bit safer then reading but still enjoyable.

That's pretty neat; I never thought of reading while walking.  I'd never

Back in my day, not only were there no portable electronics, I don't
think
electricity had been discovered. And we carried stupidly heavy packs so
our
break strategy (collapse often and for long periods) has no relevance
today.

But I had to respond to your comment about paperbacks. In the most
boring
stretches of Oregon forest, I actually read a paperback book while I
hiked.
Only a few times did I stumble over a root or rock, and it made the
miles
pass much more quickly.
