[pct-l] Mountain bikers

I agree with Dan. Now, my own opinion, not Dan's is: Hikers can develop an elitist attitude and forget that others also love the trail in their own way. I am not a great fan of mtn bikes, the small numbers I actually encounter on a long trail are small.

I was on Isle Royale NP (one of the great backpacking gems in the us). High overhead- no sound could be heard, just a plane way up there invoked a very negative, "Planes should not be allowed to fly over National parks- it ruins the wilderness experience."

I just looked at him and thought, "man, its not the plane that has ruined your day and you." And moved on.

The elitist attitude has shown up on the CDT at times- an attitude of entitlement I guess you could call it. some CDT hikers have come to expect assistance and for people along the way to put themselves out for a CDT hiker. The only ones eventually put out were the hikers. This could happen on the PCT, too, I would guess.

Backpackers do not own the trail. Its nice not to run into bikes and horses, and lamas and radios, and I hate gadgets like phones in the backcountry- and sometimes other backpackers annoy me, and......

Enough time on this topic, I am just moving on...... HYOH everyone and come to embrace bikers like illegals- we can live with 'em. I guess.

HYOH, JoAnn. I promise not to judge you as harshly as you have others.

Besides, the prospect of risking getting one's ass kicked in the wilderness and the other party being able to claim self defense is not very appetizing to me, and probably a few others.
