John: I just realized I sent my reply to the CDT-L list serve instead
of the PCT list serv. I am hiking on the Continental Divide trail this
spring, so quickly chose the wrong list serv suggestion from my email
service.

Many hikers stay at the Ashland Youth Hostel--150 N. Main
St--541-482-9217.  That is the main hostel people are referring to.
July 4th is pretty early for PCT hikers.

Another hostel that provides kitchens is Ashland Commons at 437
WIlliams Way--541-482-6753--www.ashlandcommons.com. These two hostels
are fairly centrally located--maybe a 10-15 minute walk to restaurants
and the food co op and the post office. Other than that there are a
plethora of motels in town--I used to stay at the Iris Inn Bed and
Breakfast for 17 years when I visited Ashland. All the motels, b and
b's and hotels that are centrally located are pretty pricey. There are
a lot of them--check Trip advisor for prices. The farther away from
downtown, the cheaper the motels, but the more walking required.

Another cool thing about Ashland on July 4th--a great downtown parade
and celebration in Lithia park, Well worth getting here to experience.
Also--it is worthwhile to check out cheap tickets for the Oregon
Shakespeare Festival online--they do have $25 tickets.

Thanks so much. It has been suggested if we want to spend a night in
Ashland before we hit the trail, we should consider staying at the
hostel as we might bump into other hikers. I kinda doubt to many folks
will be that far North by July 4th, but it might be a cool experience
anyway.

Now I don't really know the name of the hostel. I was also told there
are two hostels though one is the primary stopping points for a lot of
backpackers. Do you know which one they are referring to? I'd like to
make a reservation soon.

Thanks Again for reaching out. I am going to give you a call as soon
as I get our plans a little more confirmed.
