The fine and PCT-helpful folks at the DeLaCour Ranch (at the foot of the road to Cottonwood Pass TH/Horseshoe Meadows lost their dog a week ago only to hear a week later that she (the dog, “Sweetie”) was found by some hikers locked in a bathroom! The account is below.

“Hey, since you have the ear of many hikers, maybe you could fine out how our dog “Sweetie” got locked in the bathroom at the Cottonwood Lakes trailhead this past week. She went missing a week ago Saturday, and just this past Saturday was discovered locked in the bathroom up there--the door blocked with a rock, locking her in. No one is up there now [because the road is still closed] so it is a miracle that she was found before she starved to death. Two hikers who went up for the day found her. Her collar and tags are gone. She was left a pile of snow for water. We do not know how long she was in there. She either ate her poop, or held it the whole time. It's all very strange!!”

Anybody know anything about this unfortunate confinement???

Keep in mind that it is these folks who will drive up to Horseshoe Meadows TH to get you, bring you resupply buckets, take you to town (Lone Pine), rent you tent cabins to use while resupplying, and drive you back to the TH, if you’d like. Julie and Coale have been helping Mountain Education’s instructional courses for a few years, now. Good people!
