What is the CA bottle deposit? To me, sounds like found money. Probably no
deposit on wine bottles?

But hey, a mess is a mess. I'll bet it isn't just hikers/backpackers to
blame. It could probably be spread out evenly to include "locals", probably
under age drinkers, looking for a spot to party.

What the hell do I know? Not much, but human nature doesn't change much
from one place to another.
