[pct-l] Re chainsaws in the wilderness

I bought, and used, some kind of "biodegradable" bar oil for my trail maintenance work on the PCT a couple years ago.  It was probably a couple bucks extra for a quart.

I've often thought that salesman that convinced me to buy it at the local Stihl (chainsaw) dealership probably went back into the shop after I left and high-fived the mechanic and declared something like "WhoHoo!  I got another tree-hugging, dirt worshiper to buy the expensive stuff".  I guess he saw me coming...

Since then, I've been using the normal stuff.  I sleep fine.

And while I'm posting, may I plug a Northern California trail maintenance group, "Pounder's Promise" for those of you looking for a trail maintenance experience.  We are hoping to be able to do both treadwork out of a base camp projects, and a couple weeks of Roving Log-Out trips.  We work in the Tahoe, Plumas, Lassen, and Shasta-Trinity National Forests.

And for a first, our projects will be listed on the PCTA website.  Thanks for reading this.

All chainsaws drip oil continuously while in operation. One year okay
maybe, but year after year after year there will be a buildup. Not good for
plants, wildlife or you. Same for machines of most kinds. Its sort of like
one person throwing brown bag little toilet paper. One person, not much,
but how about a thousand?
