 I agree with Matt,
And to further his thoughts, I'm actually thinking of starting the hike with a almost shaved head, as it would save me the effort of washing it and, wouldn't need a hair cut until after Tahoe.

You're overthinking this.

If you like the beard, keep it.  If not, shave it.

Shave a "P" on your right cheek, a "C" on your chin, and a "T" on the 
left cheek.

Start clean, and grow the beard over the course of your hike.

The options are limitless, but keep this in mind.  The desert is hot, 
the mountains are cold (the desert can be too), and no amount of facial 
hair is going to make a significant difference.  Just do whatever's 
comfortable for you and helps you best enjoy your hike.
