[pct-l] Backing up pictures

I did the same thing - mail SD card to wife, download, send back. CAUTION - do not be cheap like I was and include the card in a regular envelope, even if a letter is also inside. USPS processing equipment can cause the paper envelope to tear, which allows the SD card to slip out. Spring for another 35 cents and get a padded or reinforced mailing envelope.
As to back-up, last summer I carried a small thumb drive along with the extra SD cards. When in town and where a computer was available, I'd copy the photos from the card to the thumb drive. That way, if the card gets lost in the mail, I still have the photos. If I had listened to The Bag Lady sooner, my Campo-to-Idyllwild pics would not be lost forever.

I used multiple cards and my wife would download them to a separate hard drive and mail them back to me along the trail. I always carried 3 to 4 cards as they weigh very little.
