There's nothing wrong with the Spitler Peak Trail in and of itself.  My
thought was that people wouldn't want to pass Hwy 74, climb all the way up
to the Spitler Peak Trail only to have to descend and go all the way back
to Hwy 74.  It makes for a much more direct route to only hit Hwy 74 once.
