[pct-l] Nite Hiking and Flashlights

Hello all,

I've been watching this discussion go by and have to say that I switched from a very lightweight Black Diamond headlamp that only really put out enough light for around camp and in the tent, to the Black Diamond Icon, which has some serious high beam settings that blaze a beam of light down the trail. The headlamp has two side LEDs that are adjustable for around camp, cooking, etc and a center, very bright (which is also adjustable, with a few brightness levels) spotlight.

I haven't night-hiked all night before with this lamp, but just using it from day to day, around camp and an occasional stretch of night hiking, the batteries (3 AAA) last for a long time.

I am thinking that it would be a great tool for PCT night hiking. A recurring theme that I've been reading in many PCT blogs, is much regret that hikers didn't bring a brighter headlamp.

I think the Black Diamond Icon is at least worth looking into for your night excursions.

Randy
