[pct-l] CA Campfire Permit - Cleveland National Forest

My understanding is that alcohol stoves are allowed, but the first level of 
fire restrictions disallows stoves without a shutoff valve. That makes all 
the home-made alcohol stoves not allowed.

My interpretation is that neither of the sites bans the use of alcohol
stoves.  The direct quote from the PCTA website (that you say bans alcohol)
is:

"General year-round fire restrictions in Cleveland National Forest include
the following:

.Wood or charcoal fires are never allowed [even with a campfire permit]
except in identified developed campgrounds and developed picnic areas within
designated fire rings.
.Only gas and liquid stoves and lanterns, and jelly petroleum stoves are
allowed."


I think the "Only" word simply emphasizes that you can't use non-gas/liquid
fueled stoves.  These might include the UL wood stoves and I guess the Esbit
stoves.

But it expressly indicates you CAN use liquid stoves such as alcohol and
white gas. That's how I read it.

That being the case, I don't see any conflict between the two websites.

The wording on the USFS page you linked  to says they are:
"The use of gas and liquid stoves and lanterns, and jelly petroleum stoves
are allowed in all areas of the Cleveland National Forest."
