Don't stop at Tuolumne; you can hike from Tuolumne by Tenaya Lake and then
down Snow Creek.  It is a big drop down Snow Creek, but it will give you
views of half dome most people never see.  I took this route into The
Valley last month and found it to be a very quite hike.  It was just hard
on the knees.  Another option is to go all the way down to Yosemite Creek
and hike down the Yosemite Falls trail.
