You can avoid the 8.8 mile road walk by taking Forest Road 7N23 for 3.1 miles to the trail and then hike the trail to Hwy 138. That option is about 24 miles. Much more scenic but don't know the condition of the trail since we haven't been allowed up there until now to work on it..
